I'm Turning Green by The Little Environmentalists is a great tool for sparking conversation, even with young children, about the little choices we make every day that can have a big impact on our world.

Written in the same easy to understand style with the same "filtered" photograph style illustrations as Nature Discovery In My Backyard, I'm Turning Green is meant to be shared with non-readers as well as older children. For educators and parents, the back of the book has a section called Earth Notes which offers more tips and educational facts to supplement the "green" lessons being discussed. As a former elementary school teacher, I would have loved these books in the classroom. They're just right for introducing a unit, and the extra ideas to expand the lesson are always appreciated. The less I had to come up with on my own, the better. I taught fourth and fifth grade, but I can see the benefits of this series extending throughout the elementary school building. The books are simple enough for the young children, but thought-provoking enough to still appeal to older children, too.

The Opinionated Parent
December 11, 2008

It was only a couple of months ago that we reviewed the first book from The Little Environmentalists. Their new book, I’m Turning Green, is perhaps even better than the last.

Retailing for just $7.95, the newly released I’m Turning Green is a great book to educate even the youngest of children about the ways even someone their size can make a positive impact on our beautiful planet. It gives kids tips to conserve energy, water, and natural resources. As a little girl turns green from head to toe, kids learn that the little things that they do around the home can actually help save the planet that they live on. Each page consists of a statement about something a child can do…“I help to recycle our glass, aluminum and paper. What do I see happening to me? All of a sudden I see my arms turning green!” and an additional ‘Did you know?’ fact that can start some great ongoing conversations around environmental protection at the child & family level. We’re thoroughly enjoying this book and I’m sure your family would too. Just be prepared to be nagged whenever you forget to be a good environmental steward.

Our financial crunch in this economic downfall can be tight right now, and it is a perfect time to teach our kids about being conservative with our resources. Simple things our kids can do, like turning off the light, unplugging electronics, and reusing products, teach them more than saving money~ they learn to making a positive impact on our planet's resources.

The Little Environmentalists have come out with book number 2: I'm Turning Green, in their series to educate our children about the environment and our eco-awareness. In the book, a little girl talks about all the things that she does to do her part in helping our environment. With each thing she does, part of her turns green (with her body being colored in green), and at the end of the book, she is completely green. One fact the book points out, you can save 5 gallons of water just by turning off the faucet when you brush your teeth and wash your hands! What a savings~ for the environment and our pocketbook!

I do think it's good to teach your child the importance of taking care of the planet and what better way than talking to them, being the example and reading books about it? The Little Environmentalist newest book - "I'm Turning Green" is all about taking care of our planet.

"I'm Turning Green" is written from a child's perspective on things they can do to help the planet - turning off the water while brushing their teeth, turning the lights out when leaving the room, making compost and much more. It's an easy to read book for children that keeps their interest. My son actually liked how the little girl was turning more and more green through all the things she did. In the back was a little I spy section where you go back and find different things in the pages. That was a huge hit here and gave us a chance to talk about the items that we had to find. There are little facts on each page as well, to help even you learn something - I know I did!

So are you "green?" Do you try to do your part to help protect our planet for future generations by preserving its natural resources?

Yes and yes? Sweet!

Now, take a look in the closest mirror and see if you have actually turned green as a way to show the world that you are doing your part! (Yes, I'm kidding...you can put the compact down now.)

But seriously, though, wouldn't the concept of turning green be a great way to help bring home the point of conserving natural resources for our kids? A new book series from The Little Environmentalists does just that, and from a kid's point of view, to boot.

"I'm Turning Green" shows how the little things we do, like turning off the water as we brush our teeth, can make a big diference! Check out Buttercup enjoying the story for the first time as her Abuela reads it to her! Watch the Video

I love this story, and I am pretty impressed that 18 mth-old Buttercup not only sat through the whole book, but eagerly requested a second reading (and sat through that one, too!)

Our Happy Happenings
December 16, 2008

There are so many important things that we need to teach our children. We have to teach them to be kind, thoughtful, giving and to have good manners. We also need to teach our children how to take care of our earth. The younger we start teaching these concepts the more likely our children will be to follow them. Hailey knows that we always say “please” and “thank you.” She also knows that we have certain items that get thrown away and certain items that we can recycle. She is only 2 years old and doesn’t really understand why we do a lot of what we do- but she knows we do it. And it will be automatic for her to do many of those things when she is an adult.

Teaching our kids how to take care of our environment can be kind of difficult. But, there is a book that can help- and it is just perfect. I’m Turning Green by Rebecca Mattano is the perfect book to use to help your child understand taking care of our environment. It shows how the little things that we all do can really add up to help. It will help you to know where to start in helping your children to see what they can do to be a part of helping our environment. I’m Turning Green is simple enough for me to read to Hailey (2 years old) but it can also be used with older children as well.

Being Savvy
December 2008

I received a wonderful book by The Little Environmentalists entitled I'm Turning Green.

Written in an easy to understand style, I'm Turning Green is the story of a little girl who turns green from head to toes when she uses her body to do something positive for the environment. For example, when she turns off the water while brushing her teeth, her hands turn green. When she brings reusable cloth bags to pack her groceries in, her hair turns green. The short story introduces young children to words like compost, organic, and environment, and entertains as well. It would be simple to convert the lessons in the story to real-life activities.

Brimful Curiosities
I'm Turning Green

January 2009

Kermit isn't the only one showing off his green lately. This year one of the more popular resolutions is to work toward living a greener lifestyle. Companies all over have incorporated green products into their lines. My husband has suddenly become obsessed with the Green channel on cable and thinks it would be great to "live off the grid" someday. But, up to this point, we really haven't taken the time to discuss any of this in detail with our pre-schooler daughter. Thankfully, there is a new book out just for the littlest green enthusiasts.

The Little Environmentalists has recently released a softcover picture book titled I'm Turning Green written by Rebecca Mattano. It's the Pinkalicious for the green kids. Instead of eating pink cupcakes, the little girl in I'm Turning Green takes part in activities to help out the environment and ends up turning green from head to toe. The book provides an excellent way to introduce the youngest child to eco-friendly practices. Readers follow a little girl as she recycles, conserves water, composts, saves energy and selects local, organic food.

The pictures in the book are unique, digitally altered photographs featuring a young girl's green journey and they cover the entirety of each page spread. The little girl in the book really does turn green! My daughter was slightly worried about the possibility of turning green herself, but she felt better after we explained to her that "turning green" is a figure of speech and really only means helping the earth. Special educational insets on many of the pages provide helpful insights into eco-friendly living. My daughter really enjoyed the I-spy aspect of the book, searching for items to compost and recycle on each page. The "earth notes" in the back of the book are especially helpful for parents and educators and include a lot of great information on how everyone can take strides to live a greener lifestyle.

Mom Most Traveled I'm Turning Green

Children have a strong sense of justice, and they love to rally behind a worthy cause (just think of all those kiddie movies where friends band together to save something from an evil grown-up).

The Little Environmentalists aim to arm children with facts to inspire them to go green! I’m Turning Green is the second book in their series of eco-themed children’s titles.

I’m Turning Green, readers follow a little girl as she learns how to do her part for the environment. Each time she does something to help the planet, she begins to turn the color green, from head to toe!
I’m Turning Green is full of tips from a child’s point of view on how to conserve energy, water, and natural resources in small, achievable actions.

Books from The Little Environmentalists are a great way for anyone to teach children about helping the planet.

Reading nonfiction books to preschoolers is a fantastic idea, because their little minds are so absorbent. I enjoy filling hungry minds with factual information.

Raising kids green means it is likely they will become adults who care about the environment. When we were younger, the awareness simply wasn't there. This book is a wonderful tool to help children learn how they can make a positive impact on our planet. Get started by reading this to teach your children just how easy it is to get personally involved in making our earth more sustainable. Turning off the water, recycling, and using cloth shopping bags are all great ways for anyone to lend a hand.

Large full colored photos are featured on each page, accompanied by environmental fun facts. I love that the explanations are very simple - even young children could easily understand these concepts. After each fun fact, a question is posed to ask if the readers could think of any other ways to save energy. Such as "What else can you do to save water?" This really gets kids thinking about how their actions impact the earth.

The Little Environmentalists is a company committed to developing and publishing children's material to promote environmental awareness, appreciation, knowledge, and stewardship. The company is dedicated to sustainable business practices and producing environmentally friendly products. Their books are proudly printed using 100% recycled paper that is 100% post-consumer waste and chlorine free, along with environmentally friendly inks!

Reading this book a wonderful way to get any child interested in helping our planet!
